Oculus Quest All-In-One VR Headset Announced
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the next Oculus VR headset at Oculus Connect. The Quest is a cheaper, all-in-one headset that seeks to push down the barrier of entry. It's also described as the last device in the current generation of Oculus headsets.

The Quest is an all-in-one device, meaning you don’t need a PC to use it. We already had a headset like that in the shape of the Oculus Go, but this is an upgrade. It's completely wireless and supports six degrees of freedom as well as room mapping. Quest achieves the latter with "Insight," a four-sensor tracking system backed by a gyroscope and accelerometer.

Without any wires to get tangled in, any external sensors to worry about, the Quest is a liberating experience. You won't need a high-end PC with expensive hardware to power it, either. Oculus is marketing the Quest as an entry-level headset. You can jump into VR with the least hassle using this thing, and you can take it with you too. It’s the perfect marketing move - everyone will take it over to their friends to show off.

Of course, as a dedicated gaming VR headset, the games will make or break it. Oculus says there are already 50 titles in the works with additional Rift ports coming. Thanks to Backwards Compatibility, all Quest games will be available on the stronger Oculus models. Among the confirmed games is Robo Recall, Moss, The Climb and an all-new Star Wars episodic title called Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series. You'll be able to play the first episode of Vader Immortal next Spring.

The Quest is an exciting development partially due to how it is the last in what is described as the "first generation" of Oculus products. This means that a Rift 2 - or whatever it will be called - is in the works. This all-in-one device being the closing product of the first phase is fitting, since the flagship Rift opening the next is sufficiently grandiose.

In spite of being an all-in-one, the Quest will allegedly match the Rift's performance. With 1600x1440 resolution per eye and 64 GB storage and improved audio, that might not just be marketing fluff. You'll be able to play games with a pair of touch controllers that ship with the headset, making this a genuinely standalone, play-out-of-the-box affair.

You'll be able to buy the Oculus Quest for $399 when it launches in Spring 2019.
