James Brown
Get Down
[Intro: A$AP Boli & James Brown sample]
Get, get, get down!
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah

[Verse 1: A$AP Boli]
The comments said "You can't do this, you're not Lupe or Nas"
And after this releases, they'll jump to point out flaws
Resuming with my music while y'all's lives are on pause
My rhymes, even to criminal eyes, elicit applause
A fiend in rap's scene? That could never be me
Mind focused in C.R.E.A.M., but no ear to the street
Start to feel like Polo G 'cause I'm a dying breed
To look like me and not be Em, now that's a sight to see
Now let me tell you about how I got where I am today
A teen from NC lustin' after rap fame
Now let me tell you about how I've played into this game
And why makin' music is more than gettin' paid
Born on December 24th, '01
To two teacher parents without the biggest funds
Dudes always asked me 'bout my parents' jobs, now I'm done
Why's it important? Why'd I have to distort it to everyone?
They don't make enough to mingle with white collars
Blue collars don't respect 'em 'cause the way they make dollars
How'd I know that was the case? They never said it to my face
'Cause people, they took note of it, and said it in their place
Realized this class thing when I was in fifth grade
The persona of a poser I was forced to fabricate
Some rich kids kept me in their group just to berate
Good thing about that year, was when I met Drake & Wayne
I would play Take Care all day just to escape
They couldn't touch me, I was lost in Nothing Was The Same
Carter III, Carter IV, then I discovered Ye
School was bad, but I found that this music could ease the pain
I knew that I wanted to rap from that age
I knew I didn't want to be met with that malaise
Wanted to get up out obscurity and elevate, without just hearing
[Chorus: James Brown sample]
Get down, get down! Get down, get down!
Get, get, get, get, get, get, get down!
Get down, get down! Get down, get down!
Get, get, get, get, get, get, get down!

[Verse 2: A$AP Boli & James Brown sample]
Middle school, was introduced to metal and 80s groups
'Cause dad, on his way to work, was drivin' me to school
Left hip-hop behind as a relic from my youth
And in a haste to escape fifth grade, tried to be cool
So, yet again, I saw myself in a poser persona
In a place I didn't belong, like Yelena Belova
I put fifth grade behind me, man, I thought it was over
But they still targeted me, like my face was on a poster (uh!)
It was these popular kids, from the professional class
They belittled me as I became the lackey that they lacked
Then they threw me to the curb, and I became an outcast
Left me with suicidal thoughts, thank God I ain't act
Didn't recover from that, 'til my last year there
It was the music and new friends that rescued me from despair
That year, nothing could compare
Then came the suffocating smoke 'stead of a breath of fresh air (get down!)
So we fast-forward now to my high school entrance
All the stuff I talked about came back with a vengeance
Not in the way you might expect it would
But in a way I would reject if I could
You see, my dad he was a teacher that everyone hated
People got bad grades 'cause the way that he graded
It was more fear than hate, the more I debate it
So allow me to amend the previous statement
I got a lot of fake friends just because of my dad
And in sophomore year, I re-discovered rap
Wasn't long 'til I said "Think I'd be good at that"
Voiced my struggles and troubles, discovered I wasn't bad
We've all had struggles, we've all had troubled times
That's what makes us human, and able to unite
As long as I'm still rappin', I'm speakin' out
Music has remained a thing for whenever I
[Chorus: James Brown sample]
Get down, get down! Get down, get down!
Get, get, get, get, get, get, get down!
Get down, get down! Get down, get down!
Get, get, get, get, get, get, get down!

[Outro: AMP2]
A$AP Boli has been told to get down
More times than he's been told he can get up
If you were in his position, what would you do?
Would you crack under pressure?
Or would you make like coal and become a diamond under it?
Regardless of what Boli is told
He's gonna keep working towards his goal
You can apply that same principle to everything you do
If you really want something, don't give up until you've got it
Show them how you get down
