Tips for Safe Travel
We had spent a month a part, I was so excited
To be welcomed back home by your face
Receiving FaceTimes, photos and videos
Would let me know you were staying safe
They would make me admire the bravery displayed
When you carried on each day without slowing down your pace
I can’t explain how proud it made me, to see youre doing great
I was on my way back home, our reunion was so close
I couldn’t wait

I knew you hadn’t been quite well for a while
But you never lost the ability to get me to smile
Through the surgery and losing hair
You were always there when I needed you
And that never changed

When I arrived, you greeted me with love
We spent the entire day hanging out, I had missed this so much
It was good to be back, I knew that you could tell
It was like I held my breath for a month and I could finally exhale
You fell asleep while watching tv, I drifted as well
The next day, I could see that you didn’t feel like yourself
That night we drove you to the hospital, I thought that you’d be fine
Then they came and brought us back, and told us that it was your time

I’ll never forget how you were staring at me
I could tell you were scared. I tried to stay on my feet
I put my hand on your face and said I’m not gonna leave
That I would see it through with you, because you’d it for me
As I tried not to cry, you tried one last time to speak
I watched the life leave your eyes and I collapsed to my knees
I felt my whole world was over, I was so crushed by grief
I found the smallest bit of refuge in the fact you’re at peace
I still celebrate your birthday
I see you sometimes when I blink
I know that somewhere you’re out there
Watching me from the brink
When I was down you picked me up
You showed me that I could be loved
Every single second spent with you was more than enough

Safe travels, I will always be your home
