Just One Line
I wrote a poem from you about me
My tears erased the words from the sheet
I've not the strength to begin again
I remember just one line that ends with
I love you

The salt wet page has been thrown away
Along with every word you'd say
Quelling work of fertile pen
Leaving just one line that ends with
I love you

The power of that sentiment
Has started wars and ended them
Broken hearts and mended them
Turned wolves to sheep and tended them
I wish it were just those three words
In my poem from you I heard

I look now upon your sleeping face
A mother's heart, a woman's grace
And a child's innocence
Whispering that line that ends with
I love you

As I wake you with a kiss
You'll happily embrace my lips
Though I know your smile says
Silently this line that ends with
I love you
The power of that sentiment
Has started wars and ended them
Broken hearts and mended them
Turned wolves to sheep and tended them
I wish it were just those three words
In my poem from you I heard

But, the line from you I wrote was
"I know that I should let you go
But, I love you."
