Your Dark Side
I should have known better
Iron flowers on a spiral vine
But what of the nobility of effort
When your victim then commits the crime

And their hearts are
Something borrowed
They are toxins
Poisonous toads

They sat among the valets
When they came for your bones
And I would have trashed the temple
If only I'd known

But my heart was
All a colourful blur
I was blind to anything sure

And you were only ever honest on the dark side
I'd only ever sleep with queens and cleaners there
Anything between would have only been compromise
So I should have known better

You could have the courage
The heart, the brains and the home
But I'm just an unmusical woman
I'm stubborn and made of stone

Still my heart is on a tenement shelf
You better look alive, sugar and stir yourself

And you were only ever honest on the dark side
I'd only ever sleep with queens and cleaners there
Anything between would have only been revolting
So I should have known better
I should have asked your name
Or at least seen the dog beside you
There's no one else to blame
