James Baldwin
Staggerlee
I always wonder,
What they think the niggers are doing;
While they-
The red and alabaster pragmatics,
are containing Columbia,
and defining and redefining a realigning a new middle-east.
Nobly restraining themselves, meanwhile-
from blowing up this Earth.
Though carrying that queer girl to the safety I imagine; of their unmarked cars
is their truth.
I always wonder,
What they think the niggers are doing,
while they make decisions on us
and play toss with teargas.
Because it seems I am so concеrned where thе doings of niggers is mentioned-
I’ve come to think I deserve to ignore this burning world for just six hours.
And ride my bike:
While black.
