Judgment Tree
[Intro: Timothy Brindle]
"Grace and peace. This is Timothy Brindle, and you're in the mix with DJ Average Joe. You know you're listening to Wrath & Grace. Jesus took the wrath in our place so we could bask in His grace."

[Verse 1: Ian Buchanan]
Let's start in the Garden
In Genesis 2 and 3, Adam's given a charge
He's a judge by a tree
And this means he's to discern between good and evil
Then decisively judge the serpent, whose schemes were lethal
But he fell and since he has broken his God's commandments
God's promise to visit in wrath is now demanded
In verse 8, Adam and Eve attempt to flee
While they try to hide from the face of God among the trees
So it seems we see God's prototypical judgment
A preview of an eschatological greater punishment
The serpent is cursed and the seed from Eve
Will destroy his works, so on the last day Satan gets merked
And with the curse comes a promise
He'll save His peeps from their bondage
By grace God covers their shame in animal garments
Their sins covered in animals skins through terrible carnage
It points to one who will hang on a judgment tree for the lawless
[Hook: Timothy Brindle]
Come with me, behold this wondrous theme
How God curses and blesses will the Judgment Tree
All are cursed through the Judgment Tree that's in Eden
So all must turn to the Son who bleeds to redeem them
Adam was cursed, he disobeyed at the tree
The second Adam was cursed after obeying for me
The man cursed on the tree is Jesus Christ
Now by His works we can eat from the Tree of Life

[Verse 2: Ian Buchanan]
In the gospel we see the seed of Eve succeed
What the first Adam failed, He accomplishes at His tree
He endured His probation through His resisting temptation
And at the cross He's discerning and issues out condemnation
As He's crushing Satan, Christ is obedient unto death
And with His final breath His life is now brought under arrest
With most painful torment, the Lord who is for us
Bore our sins on His tree and by His word He assures us
That we who are united to Him in His death for sins
Will soon be raised from the dead to receive the rest He gives
More than merely a martyr, He was severely slaughtered
The Son was crushed as He crushed the serpent, this pleased the Father
With His bleeding posture He offered up His body for us
So instead of being condemned, we are raised in Christ who we trust
At the tree, see the Judge getting punished
For us as He's judging the serpent He's crushing
[Hook: Timothy Brindle]

[Verse 3: Ian Buchanan]
The inauguration of the judgment originally prototyped in Genesis
Is evident in the cross of Jesus Christ
The earth quakes and darkness covers the land
The dead rise from the tombs and testify to the Son of Man
This is a picture of the Judgment, begun
And it culminates in the return of the Son
Our King crushed for sin ushers in covenant punishment
This is the gospel of redemptive judgment
By faith if you're found in Him who died for sins
You too were crucified, you died with Him
On the last day you'll raise to be made perfectly blessed, then
You'll be acknowledged and acquitted at the resurrection
If judgment begins with us, what will become
Of those who disobeyed the gospel of God the Son?
They'll receive the curse of the Law in its awful sum
So flee to Jesus Christ who saves from the wrath to come
[Hook: Timothy Brindle]

This is great
