“They Are Only In It For The Money”
The main thing that I consider before undertaking a work
You know, a long orchestral thing like that
See, in the old days, before I got a chance to work with a orchestra
Before I found out that they are only it it for the money
And they're considering only their pensions and the rehearsal breaks
And all those other little mechanical things that makes life in a symphony orchestra so delightful
When I found that out, it's, it turned me off so bad to writing for that medium
Because, uh, the orchestras that I had a chance to work with
The Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic in London
Uh, their attitude towards the performance of music in general
Seemed to me, uh, wrong
You know, they weren't putting enough personal energy into the performance or the music
I get a better performance out of the members of the group
You know, even though it's only a mere ten pieces
I can make it sound like an orchestra with guts
And that's the thing that I miss from normal academic orchestral performance
It just doesn't have, uh
It's not coming from the lower chakras
Do you understand what I'm talking about?
