One more year has vanished
I now wish it goodbye,
Some have happy memories
Others left to cry.

Eyes viewing our world
See suffering and pain,
Was it ever meant to be
The innocent were slain.

Their own souls are destroyed
When other lives they take,
Were perpetrators really human
Or imposters, a wicked fake? .

Surely they knew the difference
Between brutality and love,
If not, they were free to seek
Guidance from above.

The few years we are given
To walk upon this earth
Would be better spent in happiness
Spreading joy and mirth.

If all regarded fellow humans
As brothers, almost kin
Together in support of our world,
Everyone would win.

Unless 'cruelty' takes a back seat
Allowing ' happiness' to the fore
Unnecessary suffering will continue
Through the years forever more.
