I measured all ingredients
Soaked fruit in brandy overnight,
Eggs were at room temperature
So my cake would turn out right.

I mixed this special treat
Traditionally done by hand,
When it was completed
Oh, it looked so grand.

In a greased lined container
I spooned my mixture in,
(Must make sure my oven doesn`t burn it
That would have been a sin) .

I then stood and admired
As I felt so proud,
'MY CHRISTMAS CAKE IS MADE'
I felt the need to shout out loud.

My oven gave a warm glow,
I`m sure it waits all year
To accept my 'masterpiece'
That gives much festive cheer.

Then we had a power cut
The cake gave a fatal flop,
I`m telling no one till the new year
Mine came from a shop.
