Pete Seeger
Manura Manyah
[Intro]
There was one country we visited that had a language almost like English
So I learnt a song all the way through
This is Scotland
And, uh, uh
If there's any Scots people here, I hope you pardon me
I know I don't pronounce the language right
I even tried to translate it into English but it, I lost all the poetry
The song was made up in the city of Glasgow by a young songwriter named Matt McGinn
He says, "This is a song about the transport revolution
That has changed Glasgow into a one-horse town"
"One-horse town" he means
They don't say "town" or "down" or "around"
They say "town, down, around"

[Verse 1]
I've heard men complain of the jobs that they're doing (They're doing)
While hawking the coal, or digging the drain
But whoever they are, there is none that compare
With a man that sits shovelling manyura manyah

[Chorus]
With manyura manyah, with manyura manyah
With manyura, manyura, manyura manyah
Now, that's a sweet chorus, y'all can sing it with me
With manyura manyah, with manyura manyah
With manyura, manyura, manyura manyah
[Verse 2]
The streets of the town were all covered around
With stuff that was beautiful, golden and brown
It was put there, of course, by a big Clydesdale horse
And it's name was manyura, manyura manyah

[Chorus]
With manyura manyah, with manyura manyah
With manyura, manyura, manyura manyah

[Verse 3]
I followed its track with a shovel and sack
And as often as no' with a pain in me back
It was all for the rent and the beautiful scent
Of manyura, manyura, manyura manyah

[Chorus]
With manyura manyah, with manyura manyah
With manyura, manyura, manyura manyah

[Verse 4]
But I'm feeling so sore for my job's been took o'er
And everything now is mechanical power
And there's not left for me but the sweet memory
Of manyura, manyura, manyura manyah
(Once more with feeling)
[Chorus]
With manyura manyah, with manyura manyah
With manyura, manyura, manyura manyah
