Rapunzel
By forest tree and forest flower
I wandered in the darkening hour
Weary of ambition
My heart was in submission
My body moved but short of power

As visions met by disbelieving soul
I saw a children's ancient tale unfold
Hunch-backed with power
The witch descends the tower
Leaves her pretty prisoner with hair of gold

And lives within the doorless tower alone
And plats her hair which through the years has grown
Sets the forest ringing
With the song she's singing
And carelessly I let my heart be thrown

She from her window saw me listening there
And lowered down the yellow platted hair
And as I climbing in the window high
And saw what a fool was I
To try and play the prince for one so fair

But she was yearning for the rescue scene
And mistook me as the one that fit her dream
And so we made a plan
As only lovers can
And I never heard the witch's scream
And now the lonesome desert is her home
And me her blinded lover walks alone
I hear her singing soon
Beneath the desert moon
She'll come to mount this heart of stone

No music greets my listening ear
As aimlessly I tread these endless years
No saviour meets me there
To heal my vacant stare
Or break the darkness with her tears
