Emily Jane White
Drowned
For many a year
This face of sullen tears
Look down, you left her here
In a room of sanguine mirrors

It’s carved and it strays
This path it deviates
A walk, a dive, a wade
Into waters of the darkest age

But in a silent way, the hand it takes
Circling around, the birth, the mouth
It’s stolen and untrue, this mark in you
And soon it will be found, left to drown

For many a year
This face of sullen tears
Look down, you left her here
In a room of sanguine mirrors
