The Veils
The Pearl (Part II)
Well I followed you out to the edge of the world
And I made my way through the fields of the asphodels
And everywhere that I looked
I searched high and low for the pearl

I tried to keep my word and so I took their advice
I followed my love there and it killed me twice
Though I was blind and half-naked
Still, I looked everywhere for the pearl

And so I took to the sea in my hickory boat
And tied a rope to the hull so I’d stay afloat
And as I stared out across the wine dark sea
I thought once again of the Pearl

I sailed on through tempests and I sailed on through fog
Until a wave flung my body right overboard
And as I sank down deep into the sea
There I first laid my eyes on the Pearl
And I felt its weight in my hand
And there I examined the pearl

In its heart I saw mysteries that were better unknown
And constellations of longing across the interzone
And in my heart I heard screaming
And so I let go of the pearl
Now my days they are haunted
And I wake with screams in cold sweat
Yeah that pearl is a memory that I’d sooner forget
Now I’m forever half-dreaming
That I am pursued by a pearl

Oh black magic black magic what is this spell?
Have I been running forever I just cannot tell
I think I’ll swallow my tongue
If I think again of the pearl
Yeah I think I’ll go get my gun
If I think again of the pearl

If you find it there
At the bottom of a deep black well
Well my friend, my friend just leave it there

If you find it there
At the bottom of an ink-black well
Oh my gentle friend, leave it there

It’ll eat your head
Your greedy little greasy head
Oh my friend, my friend leave it there

It’ll eat your head
Your grubby little greasy head
Oh my friend, my friend just leave it there
Leave it there
Leave it there
Leave it there
