Formal Attire
[Verse 1:]
I'm not the oldest man in the books that you read or the shows on TV
This seat has seen much more experienced players in the game than me
And it sucks but the job's important, to some extent I must rely on those who know
But I know that those who know are rooting against me, it goes to show
That the state up here is packed with the most competent people to fuck it up
But they're the way to learn how to navigate a system that I've never been privy to
And they're informing me of what to do, and I don't know if I should listen
But they've been in the know for many years and they're dressed in formal attire

[Verse 2:]
Two years in, and I've built my brand on taking the money of corporate stands
I've been a leftist firebrand for a long, long time, but hey, I was young
And young people are ignorant to the inner workings of the world
Because life isn't fair, and we need moderation sometimes to make things work
Pushing through a policy, to give healthcare to every American
They say, "Well Floyd, that's not gonna pass, and how are you gonna pay for it?"
And I say, "Yeah, that's a really good point, I hadn't considered it"
But hey, I just needed a helping hand from experts dressed in formal attire

[Verse 3:]
Some dudes with shades and big-ass book step into the room and inform me of
A country in distress, they say, "Mr. President, in this African country
There's an evil dictator warlord bad guy who's also limiting our share of oil
And I say, "Oh fuck, well what can I do about this?"
And they tell me that I can send troops to go on out and fight their government
I know that if I don't I'll let their people die, and that'd be my fault
And sure, there may be some innocent civilian casualties, or maybe a lot
But we're the ones who are civilized 'cause we're dressed in formal attire
