The Final Moments of the Universe
These are the final moments of the universe
It sinks like a whale to the ocean floor
There the hagfish and the crabs
Strip the cosmos to the bone
The light of the sun doesn't shine down here
The earth is a grain of sand in the dark

The curlews on the mudflats are probing for invertebrates
The clerk in the factory is sending faxes
The flies are sleeping in the kelp
The children are visiting Durham Cathedral
The leaves are turning orange, the library is on fire
The labrador chases a stick of wood, I am in tears.
