James Joyce
Somnopolis
And now I know that love’s not a savior
Just a distraction
Like all my other failing emotions
A sweet smelling flower
To make my eyes heavy

And play in my dreams
But I’ll splinter my eyes
I’ll search for what’s real
For dreams are just wishes
Without any action

Each time I wake I say
This is the last time I’ll fall asleep
And then I rise
It smells so sweet
But the emptiness still remains

Words are confusion
Lies by their nature of telling stories
A story is confusion
Illusion’s my horror, but at least horror’s real

And I’ll splinter my eyes
As I search for what’s rеal
I’ll search for what’s right
But dreams are just wishеs
Without any action
Each time I wake I say
This is the last time I’ll fall asleep
I can’t be content
It smells so sweet
But the emptiness still remains
