The Grateful Dead
Good Lovin’ (Live at Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO, December 10, 1971)
[Verse 1]
Well, I was feeling so bad
I asked my family doctor about what I had
I said, "Doctor (Doctor), Mister M.D. (Doctor)
Can you tell me (Doctor), what's ailing me?" (Doctor)

[Chorus]
And he said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" (Yes, he did)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
All I need, all I need, ow (Good lovin')
'Cause all I need is lovin' (Good lovin')
Early in the morning, baby (Good lovin')
Late in the evening one more time (Good lovin')

[Verse 2]
Come on, baby, squeeze me tight
Don't you want your daddy just to be alright?
I said baby (Baby), that's for sure (Baby)
I've got the fever (Baby), you got the cure (Baby)

[Chorus]
And she said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" (Yes, she did)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
All I need, all I need (Good lovin')
All I need is lovin' (Good lovin')
Early in the morning, baby (Good lovin')
Late in the evening one more time (Good lovin')
Go on now
[Instrumental]

[Bridge]
Going out on a four-day creep
I know I get lonesome, begin to weep
Four days, four long days
Four long days without no love
I can't stand it no more
I can't stand it no more now, no
I can't stand it, I can't stand it no more
I can't go out, baby, on a four-day creep
All I want is love, can't get no sleep
Sit around and watch the TV
Drink a whole bunch of whiskey
That all I've got but never the love can try to find me, I need your love
I'd just like to have a summer
I just got to get summer lovin' now
I'll get her back, I'm wantin' the lovin'
It's all I need
Old lady tell about it
Come on now
It gets so lonesome in a strange old town
It gets kinda lonely in a strange old town sometime
And I'm gonna go out, I don't care what my old lady say
I'm gonna out in my mind to play
I don't find nothing of a four-day creep
I take four, five days and then tearfully weep
I got to find some, I got to find some love
I got to find some, I got to find some love
Yes, I do now; I just can't wait no longer
I'm coming to the end of my rope, I can't wait no longer
I'm coming to the end of my rope, I need some hope
I'm at the end of my rope, I need some hope now, darling
Need just a little bit more hope
You make me feel fine, you make me feel fine, you make me feel fine
Just a little wine on me
Sometime when my old lady decide that she gonna go out
Sometime when she decides she gonna leave
I just sit around the house and wonder what to do
You know, I don't like to mess with nobody else's old lady
Word get around the neighborhood pretty fast
And I tell all them people that I'm a good man
I think I just might have to move a little fast
Just a-move little fast
But I'm built for comfort, not for speed
Got everything a woman might need
But I can't stand it no more, I just
I got to get a little bit of love
Can't stand it no more, I just — it's all I'm thinkin' of
And I think I might have some hope
Baby, this ain't no joke
I think I might have a little hope now, darling
Baby, this ain't no joke
You make me feel so good
You make me feel so fine
Only two times, only two times, only two times
I got to make her three or four
I got to make her three or four or more
And one of them reasons, one of them reasons
One of them reasons she make me feel so good
She make me feel so nice
One of the things that make me feel so good
It's just because, just because, just because, just because
She's got box back nitties, great big enormous thighs
Working undercover with a boar hog eye
Yes, she does; yes, she does; yes, she does; yes, ow
She got overdrive, she got overdrive
She got overdrive, and it keep me alive
Overdrive keep me alive in the morning, in the afternoon
Overdrive keep me alive in the morning and late in the evening too
I can't ever think about her two times, got to think about her three or four more
I woke up in the morning now when I hear her knocking on my door
Come on in, sit on down, said, "Daddy, what you want me to do?"
Turn on over, give me your shoulder, I told you
Everything you want, ooh
You know some folks said she must be a Cadillac
Some folks say she must be a Cadillac
But I say she got to be a T-Model Ford
She got to be a T-Model Ford
She got to be a T-Model Ford
She got to be a T-Model Ford
She got the shades, alright
Sure carry something heavy, though, a-yes, she can
A-yes, she can
You know she can, ow
Coming to California, hey, yes, I know
Drive to California, got a big love
I, I may need more love
I, I may need more love, yes, I do
Yes, I do

And I feel so down
I ain't had no lovin' in a long time
I ain't had no lovin' in a long time
And I feel like somebody put a spell on me
Feel like somebody put a spell on me
But I believe I found a way to break that spell
I believe I found a way to break that spell, yes, I did
Yes, I did
And it's just seeming I got myself an idea
Just seeming I got an idea, yes, I did
I ain't gonna tell you about it, though
You'll find out next time I see you
Next time she go out on a four-day creep
Next time I ain't gonna sit home and weep
I got an electric company on the side, an electrical company
An electric company on the side, an electrical company
I could hop on my pony and ride
I'm gonna hop on and pony and ride
I'm gonna hop on my pony and ride, ride
Hop on my pony and ride, ow
I was feeling so bad, I was needing something
[Verse 3]

I asked my family doctor about what I had
I say, "Doctor (Doctor), Mister M.D. (Doctor)
Can you tell me (Doctor), what's ailing me?" (Doctor)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
All I need, all I need (Good lovin')

Late in the evening one more time (Good lovin')

[Verse 4]
Come on, baby, squeeze me tight
Don't you want your daddy just to be alright?

I've got the fever (Baby), you got the cure (Baby)

[Chorus]
And then she said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" (Yes, she did)

Early in the morning, baby (Good lovin')
Late in the evening one more time (Good lovin')

[Outro]
That's all I need

Thank you

In case you just joined us on the air, welcome to the second set. And, uh, we're doing just like it sounds like we're doing. Right now, we're tuning up. I might take this opportunity to tell all you folks here tonight that, uh, this is really a nice theater. It's one of the very few finest in the country, if not in the world, and it's a good place to have a rock and roll show. And, and the owners of the theater hope that you won't, you know, be careless and rip it up so that we can, you know, keep coming back and other groups can keep coming here. [Instrumental] (Hold everything. Thank you.) We seem to be having some intonation difficulties. (Now we're gonna try to get in tune.) Wait a, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. I mean, I mean, we can't play when it sounds like that. You seem like reasonable people, surely you understand. Amenably, you see the, uh, organ and the piano are not in tune with each other. (We don't need that big bright light.) And so when this happens, the stage tunes up with the organ and then tunes up with the piano. You say something about a light? (Yeah. I just want some red lights on.) Gold's okay, too; gold's okay, too. (That's just 'cause you think it makes you look sexy.)
