The Growlers
Hollowed Out My Heart
I hollowed out my heart
When I set for sea
Just so I could float past all this debris
I'd sink like a stone with a heart that heavy
And I'd sail half-mast without dignity

So I hollowed out my heart with a knife and a spoon
Carving out her face took me all afternoon
I carved out her eyes, they were covered in gold
Every thought, every memory in the hold moldy cold

It looked like coffee with not too much cream
I poured out her skin in a thick, winding stream
Each drop that drip, the sea took a sip
And the wind blew me further in my empty-hearted ship

And the more that I carve
The less that I starve
I cut out her lips cause those lips might stick
Not sick of home, no I'm not homesick

Yes I hollowed out my heart with a spoon and a knife
I did this till dawn in the pale moonlight
I hollowed out my heart when I set for sea
Just so I could float past all this debris
I'd sink like a stone with a heart that heavy
Don't don't don't anchor me, don't anchor me
Don't anchor me, don't anger me, aahh
[Outro - x9 / until end]
(Down into the bottom, down to the rocks
Follow me, follow me, follow me down)
