Elizabeth Dale Helping Jefferson Health After Raising Over $1 Billion the Startup Health Academy to Scale
Elizabeth Dale spearheaded fundraising campaigns at Jefferson University in Philadelphia that raised more than $1 billion, bringing her career total of donations to $1.6 billion from various schools. She is now working with StartUp Health, leading efforts to increase investments and broaden the company's reach through investor relations and new business development
Elizabeth and I recently had the chance to talk about her transition and, in particular, how she intends to use her expertise, passion, and business-minded leadership to assist StartUp Health in fulfilling its purpose.Managing the billing process accurately is not easy as providers might face hurdles in revenue cycle management. What has been a thread that unites the past and present in your career up to this point as you reflect on your accomplishments?

Throughout my career, my unwavering dedication to making a difference and improving the world has served as my North Star. At three organisations with clear goals and missions, I had the honour of holding senior positions. They all demonstrated strong cultures, adaptable teams, focused decision-making skills, and inventiveness. To "better the health and welfare of everyone in the globe" is StartUp Health's lofty objective. My career, which has spanned organisations with a goal, is what ties my history to this wonderful chance. Unity Stoakes, Co-founder and President of StartUp Health, told me, "Making the commitment to join StartUp Health is more than a career decision; to us it is a calling to achieve Health Moonshots," which confirmed for me that this was the appropriate chance.MedsIT Nexus billing and coding experts are highly proficient in processing claims for your dental practice. Additionally, I appreciate that StartUp Health supports the idea of a "double bottom line." They have measurable financial performance and produce socially beneficial results

The goal of StartUp Health is to help Health Transformers, moonshot-minded early-stage entrepreneurs, globally and integrate them into like-minded communities. How can you apply your knowledge of the nonprofit sector to advancing this tactic?

At three top research universities, I was the chief development officer. Drexel University, Jefferson, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The StartUp Health Academy and Community Platform is one of the company's key differentiators. It offers hundreds of Health Transformers a forum for networking and education. My experience in academia has given me new perspectives on the various aspects of offering a holistic educational experience, as well as a deep respect for the distinctive services offered by the Academy

Second, I was intimately exposed to the difficulties and potential associated with using technology to revolutionise the healthcare ecosystem while serving as an executive vice president in a $10B healthcare system. This is the main objective of StartUp Health

Thirdly, I have collaborated closely with researchers to secure sizeable financing for cutting-edge science, launch institutes in new areas, enhance patient care, and move their research from the lab to the bedside. Researchers and businesspeople share similarities. They are driven, curious about the world, passionate about realising their goal, and frequently at the top in their field

The health moonshot idea serves as the foundation of StartUp Health. Communities of businesspeople, financiers, and activists who are devoted to improving public health, finding a cure for a particular illness, or expanding the scope of medicine come together through moonshots. Do you have a particular health moonshot that you are dedicated to?

Each of StartUp Health's moonshots is topical, pertinent, and has its own crucial requirements and benchmarks. The desire to confront healthcare injustices, though, was stoked when I moved to Philadelphia in 2006—the poorest of the ten major cities in the country. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Of all the forms of inequity, injustice in healthcare is the most startling and terrible," during a convention of the Medical Committee for Human Rights held in Chicago in March 1966. My team and I at Drexel worked to create the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement and the Dornsife Center for Community Partnerships thanks to Dr. King's comments. At Jefferson, we established the Jefferson Collaborative for Health Equity, garnering $55 million in philanthropic money to support facilities and initiatives that cater to some of Philadelphia's most underserved communities. Although Dr. King's comment was made fifty-six years ago, I think the collaborative model of the Health Equality Moonshot will significantly narrow the health equity gap and support founders of colour. Time is our enemy, but we are making fantastic progress. As a recent example, Kaakpema "KP" Yelpaala, Chief Impact Officer for the Health Equity Moonshot, Steven Krein, CEO and Co-Founder, and I introduced StartUp Health's Health Equity Moonshot at the Clinton Global Initiative conference

Building long-lasting relationships takes forethought, and it's an effective tool in every industry. What knowledge do you have about creating relationships that endure, especially those that might seem counterintuitive to someone just starting out?

What a wonderful query! My primary responsibility at StartUp Health is to grow relationships with both current and potential investors. I think it's important to honour all of your commitments. Communicate and provide an explanation if unavoidable circumstances prevent you from doing so. Demonstrating what I refer to as "creative initiative" is the second aspect in creating long-lasting partnerships. Consider how you may be of assistance, helpful, and supportive, and do so in a creative way. By going above and above, distinguish yourself and your business; send a handwritten note of thanks; convey an item that might be of interest; or acknowledge a common objective. You began with a proverb that perfectly captures my 20 years of management philosophy: building lasting relationships is about putting people first

As you consider strengthening StartUp Health's position in the market, what are the main differentiators?
Co-founders Steven Krein and Unity Stoakes have dominated and shaped the digital health business for the past ten years. With the greatest minds in health, they have developed a mission-aligned team with extensive domain knowledge and are continuing to expand their range of health moonshots

The sheer size and depth of StartUp Health's network is one factor that makes it so potent. They have genuinely established the largest, most active, and collaborative digital health network in the world with more than 435 investments made in the field, headed by more than 700 entrepreneurs, across 29 countries. It's important to recognise the strength of these networks because of the rising tide

I've also been drawn to StartUp Health's innovative approach to encouraging, instructing, and supporting the innovators of health technology. They strive to motivate people worldwide to achieve health moonshots through the media and the community. They're training the upcoming group of health entrepreneurs through masterclasses, office hours, and events. And they are supporting the most innovative businesses through their investment vehicles. It's a novel double bottom line method that has the potential to be both profitable and beneficial

One more thing about performance. These lofty aspirations may seem nice on paper, but they are meaningless in the absence of sound business principles and quantifiable results. StartUp Health has more than ten years of market experience under its belt and is now in a position to take advantage of those successes to expand up exponentially. I'm eager to hasten that growth by applying what I learned at Jefferson Health
