Let’s look back a couple ‘a days
To when I took a trip to the new cafe
I say, I could never repay you
Never take a second to move away

We locked eyes in the afternoon
I took myself for another buffoon
I opened with an awful joke
About the president looking like a beef baboon

And when it got dark
I said that i was having trouble with my car
I may have just pretended
So I could have a ride in your mercedes benz

You drove so nice
Or perhaps my glass made me look twice
Your face looked gorgeous under the lights
Passing quiet as we drove by

I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
I couldn’t write anything less sad
I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
About all the times we had
Let’s look past those couple of days
And take a little time to appreciate
The time we spent in medias res
Getting into the ways we could go next

We got back every afternoon
To have some coffee and a biscuit too
It’s true, we both had a sweet tooth
We’re a caffeinated apple and that’s the truth

And when it got dark
I took you home and we went so far
I can’t turn back it’s just the start
Thinking about just where we are

And just in time
You came and let me call you mine
And every time I call you’re sure to reply
And talk until the day goes by

I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
I couldn’t write anything less sad
I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
About all the times we had
A fanfare for the husbands
A fanfare for the wives
A fanfare for the ones they’ve raised
Beginning their new lives
A fanfare for the husbands
A fanfare for the wives
A fanfare for the ones they’ve raised
Beginning their new lives

I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
I couldn’t write anything less sad
I was in love!
I was in love!
I couldn’t write anything more sappy
About all the times we had
