Johnny Manchild & The Poor Bastards
Letter
I just read a letter you once wrote to me
Worlds away and lifetimes ago
And with it something vile had come down over me
I've never seen a burn so slow

They say the fire broke out downtown right on my street
Pieces shattered splattered on the ground
It spread across the town, your words flowed through the streets
The words were black, but meaning new was found

And they sang your story on the beat
In the ears of everyone that I would meet
First impressions now are needed never more
Oh well, you already took care of that

Sunlit smoke is filling up my balcony
Conversing only with each cigarette
I try my best to keep your words away from me
Despite my best they just keep coming back

And it burns into me every breath I take
All these dreams in sleep somehow keep me awake
They say that time will heal all wounds just wait it out
Time is fucking killing me

Everynight, sneak in my mind and plant your angry verse
I stay awake and contemplate the words that wrote my hearse
To the grave and down below is this what you wish for me
I never wanted this to go so wrong
I just read a letter you once wrote to me
Worlds away and lifetimes ago
And with it something vile had come down over me
I've never seen a burn so slow
