Del Water Gap
Slow Down
I woke up this morning and saw you next to me
I thought I’d wake you darling, but instead I let you sleep
You looked so beautiful like that

And so I walked on down the stairs after putting on my robe
I put your flowers by the window sill and the coffee on the stove
The smell almost made me laugh

And on the TV I saw dictators bring war to foreign lands
And out the window business people running, briefcases in hand
And I thought, “Why can’t you relax?”

If we could just slow down
We could look around and take some time
If we could only slow down
I know everything would be alright
If we could just slow down
We could look around and take some time
If we could only slow down
I know everything would be alright

You came down as the hours passed and I’ll never forget
How you came into the kitchen and wrapped your arms around my neck
Oh, you wrapped your arms around me

There were cigarettes broken bottles littering the stairs
They were left there from the night before but I know you didn’t care
I know you didn’t care
And so you grabbed a cup and looked at me, the sun was in your eyes
You had this look of utter innocence, but that’s what makes you mine
Oh, that’s what makes you mine

If we could just slow down
We could look around and take some time
If we could only slow down
I know everything would be alright
If we could just slow down
We could look around and take some time
If we could only slow down
I know everything would be alright
